Early in the morning on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Miriam from Magdala comes to the tomb. She sees that the stone has been rolled away from the tomb. (John 20:1) Tree of Life Version
I love to sing Don Francisco’s, “He’s Alive”! The song begins with Mary/Miriam returning to tell them that the stone was rolled away and His body was gone! Peter and John ran to the tomb; John believed a miracle had happened but Peter was skeptical.
As we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ/Yeshua HaMashiach today, we believe alongside John that a miracle happened! However, there are still many in our world that are still skeptical. It is our job to tell them, to give our witness that He’s Alive in us!
We believe that the L-rd is in us; in fact, the power that raised Him from the dead is in us! That power is there not just so we can live a good life; it is there so we can make disciples! That power enables us to heal the sick, to speak a prophetic word, to cast out demons, to speak in new languages, to drink anything deadly with no harm to us and even to raise the dead! (see Mark 16:17-18)
He wants us to trust Him completely! If He tells us to witness, then we need to witness! If he tells us to heal someone, then we need to heal them! If He speaks a prophetic word to us, then we need to prophesy! If someone says to us that they aren’t sure if the Bible is true, then we need to share the truth with them in love! He’s Alive, let’s all allow Him to live through us!

Don’t Hide Under a Basket
“You are the light if the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on a lampstand so it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14 – 16, The Tree of Life Version)
The Lord spoke to me and told me “to be bold at O’Connor High School”. In many ways I have hidden under a basket, not literally, but when we don’t witness and let our light shine we are hiding. We hide because we think the boss will get upset if we shine too brightly. We hide because we don’t want to be pushy with our faith. We hide because we think the people aren’t interested in what we have to say. Whatever reason we give, we must accept that Jesus said, “You are the light if the world”.
The Lord also said, Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. When we don’t shine, we are hiding under a basket! As we consider all that the Lord is showing us and teaching us, it is time to shine! It is time to become bold in all we do and say! It is time to listen to the Holy Spirit and do what He is leading us to do and say what He is saying!
Pastor Monty gave us a list of things to pray concerning the Holy Spirit. I have been praying those things – you can’t pray them and not change! You don’t “ask the Holy Spirit to flow through you to others” and then hide under a basket! You ask Him “to flow through you” and then do whatever He wants to do through you and say whatever He wants you to say through you!
We believe that Heaven is real and we also believe that Hell is real. I don’t want any of the students at O’Connor High School to go to Hell, so I need to boldly shine and be the light of O’Connor! Each of us needs to be the light in our homes, the light at our work, the light at HEB, at Fiesta Texas, or wherever else we may go! We need to consciously know that we are the light and we need to shine! Then when we do, we give all the glory to Father!
Charles H. Spurgeon said, “If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.”
We need that same conviction and boldness, we need to be the light and shine for all to see!
